The oldest claims for bipedalism have recently pushed back to 7 mya. That is now getting further back than what was formerly claimed as the likely homo/pan split, BTW. IMO, the oldest claims are not terribly robust, but at least bipedalism is more easily determined in the fossil record as being quite old, as compared to fire use, or most other behavioral changes such as monogamy, LOL!

What I found interesting about the bipedalism theories, is how many of them were based on somewhat to rather complex claims of behavioral change, such as the monogamy one. Very similar to the complex behavioral change claimed by the fire theory. While it is fine to speculate, the people advancing these notions need to realise (and I'm sure they do) that they are very speculative, and not likely to ever have sufficient evidence to call them a strong scientific theory.

Lightly snowing here this morning, must mean AGW is dead! Of course, I recall about a decade ago photographing a freak snowstorm on July 1 here. LOL!
