RE: financial education

In the seventh grade, I was made to take abut $50K in fictitious cash, and make a stock portfolio. It was fun. Had a contest. I learned that if you made 5% on principal and then lost 5% you were worse off, not even. Simple stuff.

I met a woman a few years back who worked for an investment bank. She started with a bachelor's degree. She told me that when she started, she didn't know what a bond was. I got sick.

There is always a great debate within formal religion, to wit...do as I say, not as I do. Unfortunately, the federal government is in that mode - hasn't had an operational budget surplus since 1957. So students, borrow and spend, borrow and spend.

The government through the "progressive" tax mechanism also teaches that hard work, prudence, and thrift will be punished.
