Let's put Enron to the side. I never condoned Enron, "creative accounting" came back to bite them on the ass, and from what I have read anybody who could read a balance sheet could have predicted it, and many did.

We can also put pig shit to the side. If you're killing an animal and using its parts, shit is an inevitable part of life, and must be dealt with. Preferably without contaminating the meat, on this surely we can agree, but if you're using the intestines, then you have to deal with shit.

I would suggest that we can put the insanity of corporate America and corporations in general to the side. Regardless of the insanity of corporate culture, deliberately adulterating the products so that the customers die is bad business.

Thus, I suggest to you that the core issue is one you have identified, deliberate adulteration, the clever substitution of a cheaper, dangerous substance.

Yes, I read "The Jungle." It was about contamination, not adulteration. Carelessness, recklessness, but not deliberate introduction of deadly substitutes. That's what I recall, anyway, although it's been many years.

It may not have escaped your attention that Jay, who I am using as a proxy for China, is extremely hostile towards me and other Americans. I don't think it's paranoid of me to think that Jay, and the rest of mainland Chinese and their minions, not only don't give a damn whether their products kill me, but actually wish they would.

Leaving aside the question of whether killing me is good for business, my preference is not to give them that opportunity.

Enron, say what you will, just wanted to cheat me.
