Handset Semi Revenues Above Seasonal — February handset
semiconductor revenues were down 5.3% m/m (3-mo mva) better than 3-yr
average decline of 7.7%, as handset semi units -7.0% m/m were slightly better
than seasonal decline 7.7%. While February data may seem encouraging, as we uncovered on our recent
Asia trip and as was confirmed by Texas Instruments, Nokia began cancelling
orders for handset components in March. Our field checks suggest Nokia may
not again order until May. Meanwhile, since Nokia's cancellations, Sony
Ericsson has also pre-announced, adding a layer of incremental weakness to
handset chip demand. We continue to see risk to Texas Instruments' 2Q08
earnings.
