It is, however, to the realtor's advantage that a sale take place. Therefore in many cases, the realtor will (while somewhat favoring the seller) have an incentive to inform both buyer and seller as to whether their expectations are realistic in the immediate market. A buyer is more likely to believe the realtor who says "That's a fair price" than believe the seller who says the same thing. At least that's the way it worked in the one and only transaction I ever made using an agent.
