They are right out there in the open, which also gives them the satisfaction of rubbing it in, showing that they are the boss. The only choice the producers have is to leave, or put up with it. So they are leaving in droves.

Serfdom has not gone out of fashion, and as in Stockholm Syndrome in little groups with an individual prisoner, plenty of people like being prisoners - it fulfills their genetic disposition to be part of a tribal chimpoid territorial dominance hierarchy.

They look for what they thing of as a strong leader, and follow them, crowd around and try to be part of the in crowd. As shown in many countries, it's easy to get the mob shouting Sieg Heil.
