I don't know what a gauntlet button is.

My Dad used to say that the reason men's suits have a row of buttons on the sleeve dates from early military uniforms when generals felt is was necessary to prevent soldiers from wiping their nose on their sleeve. They put a lot of buttons on to do that.

I don't know whether this is true, but it sounds reasonable. Anyway, it makes a lot more sense that some women's fashions, particularly those designed by fancy pants designers in Paris.

Lowrider jeans for example. I think the guy who designed them should be taken out and shot. They destroy the symmetry of a woman's body, and I've never seen a woman look good in them.
