Ukraine in NATO is my prediction. Russia in NATO is my wish.
The surge in extreme nationalism in China is setting American teeth on edge, not just mine.
Not due to "economic rivalry" -- we compete economically all over the world but few countries make it so hostile and so personal as China -- the only ones which come to mind are Iran and Hugo Chavez (I don't think he speaks for all Venezuela).
Your rabble-rousing rhetoric is wasted on me. Trotting out dead girls and boys, waving the bloody shirt, is red meat to the masses, but perhaps you have lurkers who are impressed.
Personally, I feel compassion for every person killed in the Tibetan uprising, not just Tibetans, not just Hans. I feel compassion for every person killed in Afghanistan, not just those killed by the Taliban, not just those killed by American action. I feel compassion for everybody killed in Iraq, not just American soldiers, not just Iraqi bystanders, not just Shia, not just Sunni.
But I digress. People are killed in wars. Your own government (PRC) has very bloody hands, no?
The point of alliances, like NATO, is not to wage war, but to keep the peace. Strength leads to peace by discouraging aggression. |
