EP, has Russia ever attacked European countries?

Russia has been attacked by France, Germany, Mongolians, China.

The USSR was quite an empire, so they were not totally benign, staying within Russia-speaking realms.

Since Russia has gas/oil, it's more likely that the Europeans will climb up the pipeline to secure "their" supplies than that Russia would try to take over the customers by force.

Military people don't really want wars. They want big salaries, lots of marching and saluting, lots of toys, conferences, manouevres maybe a few skirmishes, but serious stuff is for civilians, not soldiers. Colin Powell was against invading Iraq. King George II was gung ho to go and get Saddam to show him who was boss.
