June 19,1997 FRANKLIN TO PARTNER WITH ROCKWELL IN K56flex APPLICATIONS
Westlake Village, CA.> Franklin Telecom today announced that it has entered the final design phase to incorporate the widely supported K56flex architecture from Rockwell Semiconductor Systems into a series of new product models and services. <snip> Franklin Telecom's new Cyclone, the first of these products to incorporate the K56flex, will provide online service and Internet connections over standard telephone lines at speeds nearly twice as fast as conventional modems. The Cyclone, which includes up to 24 built-in modems, terminates a T-1 line into up to 24 channels which can transmit a combination of voice, fax and/or modem data. ftel.com
August 18,1997 FRANKLIN ACQUIRES SOLE OWNERSHIP OF CYCLONE <snip> The Cyclone input is a T1 Telco circuit and output is a V.34 modem circuit. This typically connects to a terminal server, then to a Router and CSU/DSU for a POP. For an ISP, the CSU would be replaced by various File Servers using a 10Mbps Ethernet as the local back bone with a Router going to a T1 CSU,then to the internet. From a practical standpoint, this results in a significant cost savings per port, the elimination of a labyrinth of wiring and greater simplicity of use. It addresses the constant push from ISP customers for greater network access solution in a single product. Frank Peters, Franklin's president and CEO comments, "I am delighted to be able to have full ownership of the Cyclone. We at Franklin are very excited at its potential, particularly as we approach the introduction of the 56K version. We have enjoyed the collaboration with StarComm and indeed, are exploring additional projects with them including the Flex56 card, but we wanted full control of this product . . . and of course, 100% of the profits!"
"The Internet explosion is still in a relatively early stage," Peters continued, "and the Cyclone is made to order for larger corporations interested in "Outsourcing" or installing Remote Access and also entrepreneurs who are interested in setting up an efficient but economical Internet POP (Point of Presence). This will become even more apparent as we introduce succeeding generations of this product, which are already well advanced in development and which we now, also, own completely.

D-Mark Series - Cyclone
Cyclone Status: As you know a major milestone was reached when we began shipping the Beta units of the D-Mark Cyclone product. This unique product combines a modem and channel bank into a single compact, simple-to-use unit that can save the typical Corporate Data Center and ISP money, mess (from eliminated wiring) and man-hours.
The first generation Cyclones operate at 33.6Mbps. The product is now out of beta and the units now shipping are full production systems. With the commitment from Rockwell for
K56flex technology we are on schedule to integrate it into the second generation Cyclone. We are still looking for a mass distributor for the product capable of understanding and customizing the product. ftel.com <end>
