It's more a case of thinking through the implications of information. For example (and you can check this out), I always argued that it didn't make sense for Saddam to retain wmds since they were ineffective against a superpower like the U.S. and it was clear to all that since 1991 his only rational course was to get sanctions lifted, and not to try to defeat the U.S. in some sort of battle.

I'm not always right. I admit to my mistakes. For example I predicted (before the war) that the U.S. would find wmds anyway since I expected Cheney to order stockpiles brought in by CIA and planted somewhere in Iraq. I'm still not sure how I missed that one except that there may still have been elements of the CIA that refused to go along with a stunt that illegal. I've heard rumors that the intended 'cache' was stopped in Turkey and that had a lot to do with why Turkey refused to let the U.S. use their territory for the war.
