Servier's S18986 had Phase IIb stopped due to toxicity two or three years ago. It was being developed via a license of a Cortex use patent, not competition per se. This publication is a consolation prize for Servier's R&D group--and it shows the kind of neuroprotection this mechanism can achieve (not the first example)--if they can come up with a neurotrophic Ampa modulator that is safe.
