Did Hillary's Sniper Jokes on Leno Really Work?
The Campaign Spot Jim Geraghty Reporting
This is where we're supposed to commend Hillary Clinton for having the ability to laugh at herself, and laugh along with her, and declare the Tuzla Dash issue behind her, except...
<<< HILLARY CLINTON: It is so great to be here. You know I was worried I wasn't going to make it.
JAY LENO: Oh.
HILLARY CLINTON: I was pinned down by sniper fire. JAY LENO: Really. (Laughter.) You know in L.A. that might be true actually.
HILLARY CLINTON: I know. I mean, this has just been such a mismatch of words and actions, and I was thinking about it because, you know, obviously I've been so privileged to represent our country in gosh more than 80 other countries, lots of the war zones and all the rest of it, and I wrote about this in my book, and then I obviously just had a lapse, and so here I am safe and sound and proud of all of our --
(Applause.)
HILLARY CLINTON: -- accomplishments.
JAY LENO: Obviously, a campaign is grueling. You use the term sleep derived. How much sleep do you get?
HILLARY CLINTON: Not enough.
JAY LENO: To answer the phone at 3 o'clock, that's got to be --
(Laughter.)
HILLARY CLINTON: You know what, it happens every single night. Somebody calls up, and they have something to say, but you've got to stop calling me.
(Laughter.) >>>
See, here's the thing... if your most effective primary ad, and the ad that you're running in Pennsylvania that whacks away at your general election opponent both deal with how you would respond to a call that arrives at 3 a.m.... do you want to be telling people that when you don't get enough sleep, you have "such a mismatch of words and actions"?
