Yes, it's good when there's progress somewhere, and thank goodness there is progress in such a big place as China when so many other places are static to going backward towards Zimbabwe style.
As I say, let's watch that space for a couple of decades and see whether there is creative progress too.
Meanwhile, I am for law and order too. But that is quite a different thing from repression. I'm surprised you don't know the difference. Being subject to their repression, I can see it pays you to deliberately ensure that you do NOT know the difference.
Very wise. Cowardly, but wise. You wouldn't want to get shot in the back, or the front, for saying the wrong thing.
Meanwhile, NZ is sending a big delegation of kleptocrats, acolytes, factotums, and hangers-on for China's first free trade deal. NZ has been in the lead in helping China get into WTO, be recognized as a "market economy" and now this. The NZ government is NOT saying anything untoward about Tibet or Tawian. They had a lot to say about Fiji, but are too chicken to talk about China. They foam at the mouth about the need for democracy in Fiji, but go all limp when visiting or thinking about visiting China.
