most teachers agree it's the toughest grade to teach.

It probably is tough now, but when I was a kid it was no tougher than the other grades. My teacher taught the boys how to handload a .30-06 shell and the other eighth grade teacher taught the girls that they could become pilots like she was. We had no discipline problems and the worst thing that happened was a kid who didn't attend school blowing smoke in the vent from outside. The teacher ran him off.

My sister just retired from teaching. She switched from 6th grade to get a break from the incorrigible kids of that age and their incorrigible parents. That landed her in the third grade, but they added a fourth grade class so she had to do two lesson plans and manage two groups of vastly different attributes. It was too much for her, and every day was like hell.

There is something wrong out there. I don't know what it is, but if I were a teacher I would probably be fired for whacking some kids when they needed it.
