The automobile economy is saddled with gasoline consumption tax by federal, states and cities. But it is still cheaper than paying more income tax. Luckily, gasoline companies are marketing based on volume. Larger volume of usage is cheaper in the summer; less consumption raises the price in the winter. This is new development in the last two years. Previously, winter gasoline is cheaper to drive volume causing profit losses, then they tried to make up in profits by gorging in the summer.

Muscle cars in the auto industry is back. It is meant not for fuel savings, but to sell owners more than one car by offering variety. It is after all, wheel then deal. But they have to go back to family customer retention practice. To treat customers with care, not don't call us we'll call you attitude.

The foolishness of online sales rather than dealership is going to bankrupt a few auto manufacturers. Plastic cars are cheaper to make. But customer relationship sells cars, not price. Wheel(test drive selected car) and deal(fighting for $100 discount) is how cars are sold. GM used to own a 6" thick sales manual for their sales force, when they sold 60% of all cars. They have since lost their secrets.
