Your note sounds that NSM/Cyrix system on a chip the is something down the road. It is actually here. MediaGX is now a 2 chip system. It sells for $999 in Compaq Presario 2200 including monitor and there is one company that sells a system without a monitor for $499.

The unknown is what will be the cost of producing a PC chip.
MediaGX ranges from about $60 to $100, from 133 MHz to 180 MHz chip.

You still need a motherboard to for SIMM slots and PCI slots, but most of the logic is implemented in companion chip to MediaGX CPU.

Here is a relatively old benchmark of previous version of Presario - 2100 including 133 MHz MediaGX chip:
