Gasoline consumption tax is now close to $2 instead of $0.35 in 1990. So, it is replacing income tax which is coming down, instead of fixing roads.

Fuel consumption is very elusive. Its not quite aerodynamics, nor low gear ratio. It could be free wheeling or coasting thru momentum. It is certainly small engine(1.8 liters) and proper gear ratio(VW diesel) for maximum power curve at 3500 rpm over hills on the highway(50 mile per gallon). Gasoline engine is not torque ideal at maximum power curve, so gasoline consumption is off quite a bit. Even hybrid Prius is now down to 46 miles per gallon. And My old Civic was only 40 mile per gallon. Does Civic sell at $12,800 at Ernie Bock's, not quite either.

Have fun. Only a few cars are fuel efficient, design wise.
