Would it be bad for the US economy if the illegals had to go back home and employers had to pay real wages for a change?

I am not an economist, but I think it would be great for the US, if illegals were sent home. The biggest effect, as you suggest, will be a general rise in wages for low wage jobs and a shortage of low skilled labor. This would result in living wages for the lower half of society, much like in Europe. It would probably result in reduced crime, a lower jail population, and a greater equality among classes, without having to raise taxes on higher incomes. However, it will probably also result in a drop in GDP. So, IMO, bottom line is lower GDP and higher quality of life.
