A little Sunday Night Hypocrisy - The Electoral College

Here is part of what Senator Diane Feinstein said in 2004:

Washington, DC – Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will introduce legislation to abolish the Electoral College and provide for direct popular election of the President and Vice President when the Senate convenes for the 109 th Congress in January.

“The Electoral College is an anachronism and the time has come to bring our democracy into the 21st Century,” Senator Feinstein said. “During the founding years of the Republic, the Electoral College may have been a suitable system, but today it is flawed and amounts to national elections being decided in several battleground states.

“We need to have a serious, comprehensive debate on reforming the Electoral College. I will press for hearings in the Judiciary Committee on which I sit and ultimately a vote on the Senate floor, as occurred 25 years ago on this subject. My goal is simply to allow the ,b>popular will of the American people to be expressed every four years when we elect our President. Right now, that is not happening...

Her bottom line is that the will of the people should rule. IOW, He or she who gets the most votes from Joe and Jane Doe gets the job.

Then, we have a state like Massachusetts. I grabbed this one since these two senators were quickly out front in their support of Obama.

Massachusetts voters supported Clinton to the tune of 54 percent of the vote and Obama at 43 percent. Under the Feinstein plan, all the super delegates should be deferring to the Mass. voters desires by transferring their votes to the Clinton side of the ledger.

But, guess what? The two senators AND THE GOVERNOR have already stated they are supporting Obama and held photo op press conferences to inform the Mass. voters that they care less what the 54 percent of them thought regarding the next presidential candidate.

There is only one thing left for me to say. "What a country"! -Y. Smiroff
