"Tony Snow had a good line on health care in the U.K. the other day....it went something like.."if you have a rotten tooth, buy a pair of pliers"....I don't believe for a second that any of the democrat choices in 00, 04, or 08 would have led to less government or more fiscal responsibility. If you do, then fine....we differ."
_______________-

We all know the Democrats will spend. It is in their very charter..the disappointment is we as voters let the republicans pretend they are different. They are not. When you resign yourself to voting for the lesser of two evils, the republicans are given yet another pass. They don't have to behave. They don't have to actually care about fiscal restraint. They just have to convince people they would be no worse than the other guys...(when their record shows this not to be true).

I think in an environment so corrupted by our various interest groups the only thing to do is try to divided government and don't give either party the reins of power. It is a lousy solution vs. having a Ron Paul type of honest approach, but it is all we have.

As to your question, I have a hard time believing the democrats could have exceeded the 7% domestic spending increases of the 2004-06 republicans. Maybe they could, but they didn't back in 1992-3, when they had total control of government.

The republicans aren't the republicans I grew up with. Now maybe one-term McCain might make some hard decisions...we'll have to see.
