Sen. McCain's son served in Iraq
Mon, 07 Apr 2008 21:54:46

US media has revealed that John McCain's 19-year-old son, Jimmy, has been serving in Iraq, highlighting his father's support for war.

The presumptive Republican nominee has risked his candidacy by claiming that American troops can bring stability to Iraq neglecting to mention that one of them is his own son.

According to The New York Times, when Jimmy McCain enlisted in the US Marines two years ago, his mother had to fill consent forms for his medical examinations.

The Arizona senator's camp maintains that McCain has kept the issue covered under a veil of silence to both protect his son from becoming a target and avoid making political capital from his service.

"The McCain campaign objects strongly to this intrusion into the privacy of Senator McCain's son. The children of presidential candidates in this election cycle should be afforded the same respect for their privacy that the children of President Bush and President and Senator Clinton have been afforded," a McCain spokesman said.
