It's not the same in all parts of the country... I've had some great and some negative experiences.. but mostly positive.. and if you speak up.. it helps... but it ain't perfect... far from it care if you were a Party member similar here ... difference from some jurisdictions is that the poorest schmo doesn't get left out... unless they want to be..
