I disagree. China is a socialist country and will be able to provide for and control the public while it uses up its reserve. US doesn't have such a luxury, unless it wants to take up socialistic ways.

While the pain to China due loss of a big customer will be large but limited, USA will not be so lucky; take a look around your home and get rid of everything that is directly or indirectly made in China. Then imagine life without them all for at least a few years.

PS In my story, "boycott" meant more than just China not selling to US. It also meant the same that anyone breaching this rule would not be getting their goods from China...kind of how US does it with Cuba and Iran...if you think it is too early for this to work, give it another decade.
