China is growing in wealth as it becomes less socialist, but it still has much less wealth than the US. You have to create wealth before you can redistribute it. Being socialist provides just about zero protection from economic crisis, and in general is more likely to cause economic problems than fix them or protect against them.

Its made in China because they are in effect the lowest bidder. If the lowest bidder drops off the market the next lowest bidder gets the sale.

PS In my story, "boycott" meant more than just China not selling to US. It also meant the same that anyone breaching this rule would not be getting their goods from China.

That would be close to economic suicide on the part of China.
