"You say why not SS and Medicare, cause the participants in those programs PAID for it except for those persons DEMOCRATS have let in without paying such as illegal immigrants. jdn"
___________
Of course, this is not true. Social Security and Medicare recipients have paid PART of what the average person receives in a lifetime, but nowhere near the true cost. These are not pay as you go or "PAYGO" plans. Both programs are legitimitized ponzi schemes, covering current costs with future contributors dollars. Here is a sample from a study done a while ago on social security.
contributions benefits overpay All sample worker:……………… $26,000 $113,082 $87,082

Now, if the average person receives five times what they contributed (even with earnings factored in), the program won't fund without either more contributors, higher contributions or lower benefits. Medicare is far, far, worse than Social Security as far as funding status.
So, when you say you have paid for something, what do you think the contract entitles you to? Your contributions back? Your contributions plus interest earnings? Or some kind of guaranteed lifetime benefit?
I believe you think it is the third choice....which is the problem with the system.
The same analogy can be made for other programs funded by taxes. People hate to pay taxes, but really don't want to reduce defense spending, highways, educational programs, or even their particular congressional district "pork". |
