If a country have last time faced a major crisis 70 years ago, it has only historic knowledge.

If you have a major crisis every decade, even the hotel porters and taxi drivers know how to behave in a crisis situation.

It is going to take a few decades to right the US up. Compare with the debacle of the USSR. Took 15 years. Only could come back in such short period of time because they are Russians -thanks klaser for "Peter The Great" book. (I still will return it).

Russia came back due to favorable set of circumstances and there you can apply authoritarian means.
