"....Indian peasants..." You rang?! I'll take this reference as a good omen. Writing from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Last night they had a festival here. This couple brought up the next to the last spot in the parade. They were adorned with ONE KG of gold jewelry...considered to be supremely auspicious. <g> The pot on the woman's head is filled with silver coins. The last spot was reserved for the goddess Lakshmi...adorned with FIVE KG'S! The spectators tossed flower petals and said prayers before it. Apparently, 10-15 families contribute the the gold for the ceremony. Gnarly, staff and gun wielding police on foot and horse surrounded this part of the procession.
