Targeted Genetics Announces Publication of Preclinical Data Supporting the Use of AAV Vectors to Deliver siRNA Delivery Approach Addresses RNAi Toxicity Issues ir.targen.com "We have developed AAV-RNAi vectors that efficiently abrogate disease in mouse models of Huntington's disease. However, many shRNAs are inefficiently processed and can cause non-specific toxicity due to metabolic or off-target effects. The team has developed an approach to overcome these hurdles by embedding the expressed shRNA in an artificial miRNA," stated Barrie J. Carter, Ph.D., executive vice president and chief scientific officer of Targeted Genetics. "These new AAV-RNAi vectors thus retain the efficiency of delivery and biologic efficacy while having a greatly enhanced safety profile. We believe this new design concept is of great importance and general applicability to the entire RNA therapeutic field." A coworker friend of mine and I met Dr. Carter at an annual meeting one year--he shared a funny story about aav and we had a laugh. I don't think this PR is just fluff, very exciting stuff. The yahoo TGEN board is a virtual cesspool, what a shame people who follow this company don't show a little respect--I know it has been a lousy investment, but this isn't a blue chip for crying out loud, it isn't going to get less speculative.
