In politics, Governor of Texas is the title given to the chief executive of the state of Texas. As is the trend in many Southern states, Louisiana excepted, the Governor's power is quite limited.

I don't claim to be an expert on state governments and the powers of various offices of various states. However, the governor of Texas does perform most of the functions that governors in other states perform. I know that in Texas more state officials are elected (rather than appointed).

It would be a mis-characterization to suggest, as tejek did, that Texas' governor is "governor lite". The governor in Texas does pretty much what governors in other states do -- he has veto power, etc. But it is a fact that he doesn't have as many high-level appointees answering to him.

I'm sure you didn't think Ann Richards was governor-lite. For most of the time I lived in Texas, Bill Clements was governor, and nobody EVER referred to him as "Governor Lite".
