Let me rephrase. The negative effects of global trade is loss of good paying manufacturing jobs for the less educated. We should not attempt to regain those jobs by trade renegotiation. In fact we should not aspire to return most widget manufacturing to the US, because most widgets will always be built a lot cheaper in China, regardless of trade agreements. Here at home we have a gargantuan project ahead of us that can provide excellent jobs to all those laid off manufacturing workers for the foreseeable future: energy independence. And to do this project right, we must generate internally the savings needed for the huge investment. Cheap widgets from China will come very handy and considerably reduce the costs of this project.
