The system doesn't have to fail in some spectacular way for there to be a problem.

The issue is that more and more of our resources will be going to entitlements. Not just in nominal dollars or real dollars, but as a portion of our economy, even if it does grow at 2.9% a year or more in real terms.

Even if you are just narrowly looking at Social Security its still a problem. Its even more of a problem looking at all entitlements combined.
