No its not very much like that at all. Debt is not the same as wealth, but things can easily be important but not relevant. If the issue isn't strongly related to what's being discussed its not relevant. Stating that isn't the same as stating its unimportant. If we are discussing the gold standard, and you find out your house is going to burn down, that would important, much more important than our little debate on SI, but it would't be relevant to the debate. If you brought it up, not as a reason to stop debating, but as a reason why you had been proven correct, you would be making a non sequitur.

Also "debt is wealth" isn't something I ever said or implied.

Since inflation/devaluing of the currency can be an important issue, you might want to discuss it instead. But then you should make it clear that you are changing the topic. International trade and economies of scale (the issues I was talking about in the post you replied to) are not the same issue as inflation.
