Gindalbie may up production from Karara

April 8, 2008 - 11:26AM

Chinese-backed iron ore hopeful Gindalbie Metals Ltd is investigating expanding the scope of its $1.6 billion Karara magnetite project in Western Australia.

Gindalbie is conducting a six month study into increasing production from the project from eight million tonnes per year to 12 million tonnes per year.

Magnetite is low-grade iron ore and requires intensive processing to produce a saleable material, unlike the high-grade hematite ore that can be shipped directly to customers.

Gindalbie and joint venture partner Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corp are aiming for first production from the magnetite project by 2010.
