Australian Resources Limited (PNA) has announced the results of its 2008 Ore Reserve estimate for the company’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold operation in Laos. As a result of a significant increase in estimated grade, the company said production forecasts have been revised upwards to an annual average of 75,000 tonnes copper, 65,000 ounces gold and 600,000 ounces silver.

The group said the forecast was based on the expansion of the operation in 2009, to a capacity of 16 million tonnes per annum.

Managing director Gary Stafford said the Phu Kham operation has just got bigger and better.

“The new Ore Reserve is another example of Pan Australian delivering for its shareholders,” he said.

“Commissioning of the initial 12 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) plant at Phu Kham commenced ahead of the previously advised schedule, and construction will be completed within the capital budget of US$241 million ($265 million).”

The company said such an increase in Ore Reserve tonnes would ensure that mine life would be over ten years at the expanded throughput rate.

The firm also pointed out that the current step-out project drilling had the objective of further increasing the size of the Ore Reserve.

At 1123 AEST, Pan Australian Resources was up 1.5c to $1.06.
