BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - The National Development and Reform Commission, China's top economic planning agency, said it has renewed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Australia's Queensland state for mining sector cooperation.

The MoU aims to boost cooperation between Chinese and Queensland firms on resources, mining, smelting and low-emission energy technologies, the NDRC said in a statement.

China has been seeking overseas mining projects to meet surging demand for commodities amid the country's robust economic growth.

Chinalco, the country's top aluminium and alumina producer, is spending 3 bln aud to develop a bauxite mine at Arukun in Cape York in Queensland.

Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd today began a four-day trip to China.
