Those "Camps" are really something else....We've been in one of the "smaller ones"....it only had 10 huge buildings....The Boat House all by itself was enormous, and filled with several boats appropriate for the Lake. The enormous Oriental carpets were being taken up to be flown down to NYC for cleaning, and were insured back in 1960 dollars for over $500,000....each one....and there were MANY of them. Just their china pantry alone was bigger than 2,000 sq feet...Looked like a top of the line store...And that was just one "Camp" these folks owned...they only were there in the summer time....

We have pictures in our family from all the deer that were at the Rockefeller camp....taken from the inside of the camp....

Never saw the inside of Mrs. Marjorie Merriweather
Post's "Camp" but went by lots of times to see it from the lake....Most of us can not imagine the money it took to run these "rustic camps".... It just takes money....piles and piles of it.... She used to fly her Poodle down to NYC once a week to the groomer.
