The profits were in big cars at one time, but the times they are a changing. Toyota has been making quite a bit of money selling all the hybrids they can build. With gas prices going through the roof, they will make even more. Detroit has gotten behind the technology curve on making fuel-efficient cars, while Japan has surged ahead. What this demonstrates is how short term thinking is trumped by long term thinking. And of course, we're never going to achieve energy independence while driving around in all those SUVs. Say it with me, Bob: Conservation is part of the solution. - Allen
