Spend any amount of time with military guys these days, and you discover that they know more clearly than anyone in Congress that the Iraq war is being deferred to the next administration. The military personnel I've been around lately have not conveyed anything LIKE this. For example, recent remarks (quotes) from a Captain who is about to be deployed -- "We're staffed with seasoned soldiers, about 65% have been deployed before ... training up here has been excellent ... this time we've not been so rushed". From a Staff Sgt. - "When I re-enlisted, I knew I was going back [for a second tour]. I had a good impression of the last deployment. I enjoyed it and the experience taught me a lot, especially about the values in America. Seeing people who don't live as well as we do made me more compassionate for things in life rather than possessions." "The soldiers are excited. They have mixed feelings, some look forward to it, but they have to leave their families. We know it is an honor to serve our country. That's what we do -- protect freedom". These are not ordinary people, they are individuals who rise above the rest of us -- every last one of them is a great American. The idiot Parson's comments to the contrary notwithstanding, these are the best America has to offer.
