The better alternative to institutional care- which isn't ideal for ANY child coming out of an abusive situation- would be placement with a small, stable foster family, and provision of intensive counseling. Also working with the parents who are willing to reject the cult beliefs and hoping for eventually reunion with their children.

I don;t consider protecting children either a liberal or conservative issue. I know no social workers who believe they can undo damage or offer perfect solutions. All they can do is try to remove children from dangerous or damaging situations. Anyone who has done this work understands that damage has been done, and there's no undoing it.
