Enfield needs that square tang at the back of the bolt and cocks on pulling the bolt back, not on bolt rotation. Many, many supposed Enfields are in fact 'Mausers' of Pattern 14. They were made by Enfield, and most often in the US, so it gets confusing. The bright blue spring clip alongside the bold for ejection is another giveaway. Also the front locking lugs which were a feature of the Ross as well. Enfield locks are in the back. The plain smooth round bolt coming out the back is another. Most Enfields, including the P14 had a side lever fore and aft safety. And there are forgeries done by American manufacturers who realized the superiority of the Mauser action and did not want to owe anything to either Worthington, Colt or Remington.

It is easy to confuse this (Enfield No. 1)

With this:

The one above goes for about 500 without the scope. So you thot all those old 303's are junk? Not the US 1917's. Some have that froofera, called ears at the back ground off. Only a few have the rotating safety, which was a feature of the Siamese Mauser action of the brits.

I can tell you why the news depressed VIT. They mentioned the old pit twice. And also it was news. That usually will ruin a good play.

When the news comes out on the Utica shales, frac shows gas not feasible that will really ruin a good play. Of course the US is having good luck with the parent formation to the South. Could be entirely different up here. There are hydrocarbons and there are Hydrocarbons. they have been drilling the north and south shore of the St Lawrence from Anticosti Island to Quebec and back to Newfoundland and so far nothing to write home about.
