OK, I'll start. I'm currently running a rather modest home theater system, depending on your standards.
I have Paradigm Signature Series speakers; S4 Front, the C3 center channel, and the ADP3 surrounds. These extremely musical speakers are complimented by a Velodyne SPL1200 subwoofer.
I'm using a Denon 2807 7.1 A/V receiver. The Denon allows for reassignment of the rear right and left channels. Since I only have five channels worth of speakers, I reassign the rear right and left to the front speakers, which are thus bi-amped.
My monitor is a Panasonic professional series 42" plasma.
My DVD/DVD Audio/SACD player is also a Denon, the DVD-2910. It upconverts standard DVD to 720p or 1080i. I find that 720p actually looks best on my monitor.
I also have a DirecTV HD DVR. I miss my TiVo, but this is the only way I can get satisfactory HD.
Additionally, I have an Apple Airport Express, which uses a digital optical cable to connect to the Denon Receiver, allowing me to play my iTunes on the big rig.
All this is controlled quite conveniently and easily using a Logitech Harmony 670 remote. If you have a large, complicated A/V system, and are using a plethora of individual remotes to control it, or have a universal remote that you have to push lots of buttons on to do anything, I'd really recommend looking into the Logitech Harmony series.
