Conservatives have plenty of problems with how things are in this country, but usually don't use them as reasons to condemn the country. Nor do they seem to cheer the attacks of our enemies on America and Americans and hope for America's defeat.
Patriotism is like the love of family members for one another. Is it natural for someone to go around filled with angry outrage about how terrible their family is? No.
I'm reminded of that parable by Evan Sayet. He told a story of an imaginary friend who went around saying I hate my wife all the time. Of course, Sayet didn't believe it, laughed it off, he's just saying that, blah blah. But then sitting in a restaurant together, they see the wife outside being attacked and he says hey, look, let's go help her out ... and the friend says ah, she probably deserves it. Then he realized, gee, he really does hate his wife. This is an illustration of how some folks reacted to 911 of course.

Why anti-Iraq war types inevitably see Afghanistan in the same light - the US is wrong, the US doign nothing but committing atrocities, the enemy are just innocent victims of our evil soldiers, the US is losing, and deserves to, blah blah blah?
We went to Afghanistan in direct response to the 911 attack on our nation - yet to the left, America is still in the wrong. Just like that guy's wife, America deserves it, America is always wrong, America is the problem.
I wish anti-American Americans would go find themselves a country they can like and move there. They're hurting the country. |
