This incident was unfortunate and embarrassing for the country, but does not rise to a level where torture is an appropriate word for it IMO. You are free to differ.

At Abu Ghraib, men were covered with feces, forced to fake fellatio on each other, hung from bars and beds, had guard dogs threaten them....all while the prisoners were kept nude. Prisoners had bloodied injuries that were never explained. In fact, blood and cadavers were frequently seen in the photos. There were reports that the younger guys were sodomized by American GIs. Clearly, the torture in Abu Ghraib was more psychological and perverse than physical.

In Afghanistan, the torture was more physical than psychological and there were more reported deaths. Men were beaten without any kind of mercy.........subject to electric shock, cold showers in sub freezing weather, hung from high bars, sodomized with batons, etc.

The incident[s] were unfortunate? Yes, you could say that. There clearly is a streak of masochism in the American military.......we've heard of more stories of American GIs in boot camp pushed beyond their limits and who are now dead. We've heard of other stories of American torture in foreign countries where no one is willing to come forward and testify......understandably. The person who reported Abu Ghraib has been forced to give up his identity and the town he grew up in.......you have to wonder why his tormenters think Abu Ghraib was okay.

All of this seems fairly reflective of an administration who thinks only other countries need to observe the Geneva Conventions.
