And by the way, before anyone here supposes that my distaste for propaganda is merely partisan, I expressed myself on a conservative forum here on SI that was slinging similar stuff against Obama:

One sees similar calumny about Hillary Clinton. "Unnamed sources" accusing her of terrible language and people repeating the quotes as if they are facts.

In this case against McCain, Cliff Schecter claims three unnamed reporters heard McCain say something crass -- so how do we know Schecter isn't pulling this story out of his hat?

Then Sam Stein repeats the story on HuffPo as if it's a fact. Then the story gets repeated here as if it's a fact.

Not good. It's the kind of politics Obama is trying to change. Can he succeed if his own supporters are taking the low road?
