Sen. Obama, meet Dr. Freud
Danny Huddleston

Barack Obama's remarks to a bunch of rich Marin Country liberals, disparaging the "bitter" gun-owning, God-loving small town Pennsylvanians already have received an enormous amount of attention, and it is only one weekend day later. Stop the ACLU has a good roundup of comments

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations".

Being an "typical white person" I'm not sure what to make of this, But it appears that an Ivy League elitist is calling middle America:

1. Bitter
2. Potentially violent (they cling to guns)
3. Racist (antipathy to people who aren't like them)(anti-immigrant)
4. Too religious (cling to religion)
5. Provincial (anti-trade)

There is a word for what Obama is doing: it's called projection. At changingminds.org they define projection this way:

When a person has uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, they may project these onto other people, assigning the thoughts or feelings that they need to repress to a convenient alternative target.

Projection may also happen to obliterate attributes of other people with which we are uncomfortable. We assume that they are like us, and in doing so we allow ourselves to ignore those attributes they have with which we are uncomfortable.

Let's see if Obama and his inner circle have any of the same qualities he attributes to small town America:

1. Bitter, (Have you heard the statements of his wife?)
2. Potentially Violent (His connections to William Ayers)
3. Racist, (Seen any videos of the Reverend Wright lately?)
4. Cling to religion, (20 years of black liberation theology?)
5. Anti-trade? (Cancel NAFTA, No trade deal for Colombia.)

Dr Freud, your next patient is ready.
