Until you do, it's just a gulf of paralyzing cynicism that leaves us right where we are.

As you have said a couple of times of late, some of us have real experience with the things we discuss. You don't have enough years with the fed to deny me my cynicism. <g>

So our net potential downside is just about zip considering how much time and money we already waste in the current setup.

Seriously, you and I share an affection for civility and constructive discourse. I would take a flier on Obama, too, if I thought that I would be happy with anything he picked to accomplish were he so fortunate as to actually accomplish anything so I understand your support for him.

But your halo effect cannot be extended to cover the impossible. Putting things right for the bitter white men is not feasible even without a bit of cynicism. For him or anyone else in the WH. If you think it's feasible, tell me how.

He might ease their pain a bit with health care. He probably could but won't do so by tossing the illegal aliens, backing off on what is now called affirmative action, and reducing the support for unions.

If food prices get high enough, he might be able to kill federal support for ethanol. But that's a mixed blessing for our target group.

OTOH, he might really piss them off by pushing through his package to rehabilitate, retrain, and advance ex-cons. <g>
