The Utica Shale extends to the south into New York, wrapping around the west side of the Adirondack Mountains, then spreading out into southern NY, and extending southward into northern Pennsylvania.

A younger, shallower black shale overlies the Utica in southern NY, the Marcellus. Farther south, another shale is prospective along with the Marcellus, the lower Huron. These shales are the focus of intense interest extending from NY to central Tennessee and leasing of land is very active.

Numerous companies are active in the Marcellus and lower Huron areas. 2 that I have taken a position in are NGAS, and EPS.TO.
EPS is also active in the Quebec Utica shale area. GMR is active in the NY side of the Utica shale area as well as in Quebec.
