On the use of the term "looney left" to describe folk to Obama's left politically, I don't think that's accurate. Obama has several positions with which I disagree that you would consider to his left. They strike me, however, as policy disagreements, even philosophical disagreements.

They are: (1) his health insurance position which will, most likely, have a harder time getting to a universal, single payer system than I would prefer or than either Clinton's or Edwards were likely to (considering only the policy proposals, not the political acumen of each); (2) he considers abstinence as one of the tools to deal with aids and unwanted pregnancies, I think that's a mistake; (3) his invocation of faith language troubles me a bit so I find myself watching the ways that might migrate into policy--so far it looks fine--but it is a bit troubling; etc.

So if you wish to characterize my positions as "looney" left, have at it. But do expect to get some comparable comments back.
