Only in the 1930s did it become known as the devils weed.

This was mostly because someone, for his own political gain, testified before congress. In his testimony he claimed that black musicians would smoke the stuff and then go out to rape white women.

At the time the AMA asked congress not to deprive Americans of valuable medicine.

After God made it he looked and said "it is good."
